Cardeña Beatus

f. 51v, The message to the Church of Thyatira

Back

This is once again the illustration usually found in later Beatus but with the position of the two characters inverted and situated on the right. The Church is suggested by means of a lobulated arch harbouring a ciborium beneath which lies the altar: all of which is faithfully portrayed in the Manchester Beatus (f. 68v). Neither Jezabel meretrix in the Osma Beatus nor the group of nine men who committed adultery with her are depicted.
