Pictured kneeling in the clearing in a wood is Saint Peter martyr in the garb of his order. He has a tonsure and halo and a machete driven into his head causing a deep wound from which the blood gushes to the ground. His chest and side are pierced by a sword dripping with blood. The saint has a pater in his belt, and in his left hand, a closed, gilt-edged book bound in purple cloth. In keeping with the legend, he writes the opening word of the Creed ´credo in d on the ground with the index finger of his right hand.
