The bottom scene on f. 29r can be interpreted as complementing the main miniature. It depicts a hunter armed with a spear running through an autumn wood with several hounds and the master of the hunt sounding pursuit using a variety of utterances known by different names. One of the merits of this image is that it does not show the quarry, obliging the viewer to imagine or construct the rest of the scene.
On the right-hand side, underneath a phylactery reading “sagittarivs”, is a medallion containing the sign of the zodiac in the classical form of a bearded male centaur with a bare chest and his head turned round, about to shoot an arrow with his bow. The naked centaur is the type that appears most often in Flemish cycles, as can be seen in works by Gerard Horenbout and Simon Bening.
