When the Lord travels to the Ocean Sea, he delights in the breathtaking spectacle of hunting animals and birds-an unmatched pleasure. The Great Khan rides on four elephants that carry a wooden pavilion, draped with lion skins and lined inside with cloth adorned in gold thread. The Khan brings along twelve of his finest gyrfalcons and is accompanied by several lords. Occasionally, the gentlemen riding with him will call out, "Sir, the cranes!" At this, he orders the pavilion to be opened slightly and releases one of his gyrfalcons to pursue the cranes, few of which escape. Without leaving his bed, and surrounded by his lords, the Great Khan finds immense joy in the hunt. In my view, there is no lord in the world who can experience such amusement and who has so many means to do so-there never has been and never will be.
